Rhenen, NL, Helden, NL, Coquelle, France, c. 200,000 BP / h)heldenmica

Identified by Jan van Es as possibly evidence of a 'micro-micro' or submicrolithic stone tool tradition with hyperminiturization of typical EP proto-art subjects. From Helden, NL, stratified above the Boukoulian, estimated age c. 200,000 BP. Size range from 0.2-0.4 cm. The two upper circles contain micro-cores apparently flaked as head and skull. The second tier left shows a hexagonal and square geometric. Lower right are possibly micro-micro-bifaces. Some cores suggest zoomorphic shapes.

Comment: If this interpretation proves accurate, this would be a stunning example of extreme miniturization.
