Iegelpoel, NL, Micro-Acheulian, c. 200-500,000 BP (?) / g)polyfmsid

Comment: Side view of same object. In this perspective the female image may be compared to the stereotypical 'profile' or 'claviform geometric sign' of the 'goddess' found at various European Upper Palaeolithic sites, e.g. the Magdalenian female ritual site at Gönnersdorf, Germany. If so, we witness in this representation of the European Acheulian 'goddess' or 'birthgiver' the predecessor of the Upper Palaeolithic 'profile' goddess. Size 2.2 cm.
