HK148b Aterian Hut Site, Har Karkom, Israel, Gallery 1 -- SE Sector
c. greater than 100,000 to 24,000 BP; l) hk148b #4 flying bird or baboon

Aterian hutfloor HK 148b, SE Sector, artifact #4 in situ.

Tentative interpretation (James Harrod): This artifact has the shape of a bird in flight, with its wings upward, facing to the left. On the other hand, it is suggestive of a baboon head facing left. Since Middle Paleolithic stone sculptures sometimes contain muliple images, it might have been intended to represent both.
